Inspiration
Adrift on the Infinite
This artwork combines acrylics with calligraphy, typography, screen printing, and collage. The texts repeats Anna Freud’s powerful words:
“We are imprisoned in the realm of life, like a sailor on his tiny boat, on an infinite ocean.”
This sentence forms the heart of the piece, inviting reflection on the invisible chains that bind us all. The blue-green colors, intensified by fiery red, black, and yellow accents, draws inspiration from the struggle against the elements and the solitude described in Yann Martel’s “Life of Pi”: “Dawn came and matters were worse for it. Because now, emerging from the darkness, I could see what before I only felt, the great curtains of rain crashing down on me from towering heights and the waves that threw a path over me and trod me underfoot one after another.”
The interplay of techniques and textures mirrors the tension between hope and despair, between protection and exposure. For me, this work is an exploration of the emotions that arise when experiencing stories—an act of laying bare a piece of my soul, vulnerable yet courageous. It is an invitation to the viewer to embark on a journey through the vastness of life, finding the strength to keep going despite the waves that sometimes threaten to pull us under.
