This painting began with the memory of a quiet landscape in which water, trees and light seemed to merge. I was drawn to the way reflections can make it difficult to distinguish what is solid from what is its reflection.

Fragments of a text I wrote about walking through nature are embedded within the layers of paint, like thoughts appearing and disappearing in the landscape.

I wanted to capture a moment in which the landscape becomes almost dreamlike — recognisable, yet already beginning to dissolve into light, colour and reflection.
