The Dutch coast is on the edge of a huge drowned land: Doggerland. The area between the Dutch coast and the coast of England, Scotland, Norway and Denmark was not always an ocean. In the last 1 million years it has mostly been dry. Large grazers such as mammoths, woolly rhinoceroses, herds of reindeer, horses and steppe wisents moved along the rivers during the ice ages. The landscape was a river delta with grasslands and forests. Also mighty birds like the snow owl lived here.
Inspired by these prehistoric finds, I wrote a legend about a seer in the former Doggerland who decides her people has to follow the snow owl to higher grounds. This legend was inspired me to make this artwork.
