Eekhout used to work in greenhouses with chrysanthemums for years before she became an artist. She collaborated with a poet (Joop Alleblas) for a series inspired by those colorful flowers.

Since the flower blooms in the fall, the chrysanthemum signifies joy and beauty despite the oncoming winter. This beautiful flower comes with a wide variety of meanings all across the globe; In Asia the chrysanthemum signifies life and rebirth, in Europe it signifies an expression of sympathy, in America they are typically looked at as a flower that signifies respect and honor. In general, chrysanthemums are believed to represent happiness, love, longevity and joy. Japan even has a National Chrysanthemum Day (“Kiku no Sekku”). It is also called the Festival of Happiness.

These flowers are painted with orange and yellow acrylics and has yellow and gold metallic details. The artwork is framed in a blank wooden frame and is ready to hang.

Eekhout werkte jarenlang in kassen met chrysanten voordat ze kunstenares werd. Ze werkte samen met de dichter Joop Alleblas voor een serie geïnspireerd door deze kleurrijke bloemen.
