The Dutch coast is on the edge of a huge drowned land: Doggerland. Due to global warming, more and more ice melted further north and slowly but surely the area was flooded. In his book ‘Orakel‘ the Dutch writer Thomas Olde Heuvelt refers to this drowned land and the disappeared animals that inhabited this land. An ancient mammoth plays an important role in the story. This inspired me to paint this mammoth. Text fragments from the book are woven into the artwork.
