Description
During the corona lockdown (spring 2020) I visualized cities where no one is on the streets. The people are inside their house. Safe and secure from the big bad outside world. In the paintings I made after this one, I incorporated texts from my corona-diary. But in this first painting I incorporated texts from the book “Eyes of Tigers” by Tonke Dragt.
In this story there is no longer any nature on earth. The entire world consists of urban areas, where people prefer to stay indoors. In the painting I incorporated the thoughts and feelings of the main character. He stands on the balcony and dreams of what the world would be like if there was room for spontaneity and if there was freedom to express creativity. Unfortunately he lives in a world where there is no room for this anymore.
This square painting is painted with acrylic in bright colors red, blue and yellow. The gold and silver texts complete the painting. The changing incidence of light during the day ensures that the texts stand out more or less. This changes the painting during the course of the day. The atmosphere and appearance of the artwork are, as with a real city, strongly influenced by the incidence of (sun) light.
