AutumnWalk
It is early morning when I step into the forest. The first sunbeams slip between the trunks. They touch the canopy and catch the colors the trees have been weaving in silence: copper, fiery red, ochre, and gold. Each leaf seems to glow, as though thousands of tiny flames are burning in the forest.
On the path lies a soft blanket of fallen leaves. With every step I hear their gentle rustle, as if the forest itself greets me. Around me, new leaves drift downward, spinning in the air as though dancing to an invisible melody.
I walk on. The deeper I go, the more I feel the silence. No people, no hurry—only the steady breath of nature. Yet it is not a heavy silence; it is a silence full of promise. The trees are shedding their leaves, not from weakness, but to save their strength, to rest and gather their power, ready to awaken again. The forest knows what we often forget: that every ending hides a beginning.
The air is filled with the scent of moss cooling in the shadows, of earth growing damp and rich. The sun climbs higher. The light grows warmer now, golden. It touches the smooth bark of the beeches, making them gleam like polished stone. I place my hand against one of the trunks. Cool, solid, ancient—like a silent guardian watching over everything that lives here.
The forest hums with life. Birds call to one another, their cries sharp and urgent, as though arranging their long journey south. From the thickets comes rustling—mice gathering seeds, dragging berries in quick, hurried motions. A badger lumbers past, snuffling the earth in search of roots and grubs. He lifts his head for a moment, sniffs the air, then disappears again into the dark. Everywhere, the sense of preparation is strong—as if all creatures know the days are shortening and the nights are cooling.
And yet, there is peace. It is as if the forest itself breathes deeply, sighing in contentment after the abundance of summer. The trees release their leaves not with sorrow, but as a festive gesture—a final gift of color for those who wish to see.
In this golden hour of autumn, I feel the forest draw me into its breath. I inhale deeply. The scent of earth, moss, and wet wood fills my lungs. Everything feels rich and complete, yet tinged with parting. This is the last great burst of color before winter returns and the forest embraces its silence.
But this farewell is not an ending. Beneath the soil, hidden in the dark, the promises of spring are already stirring. Seeds wait patiently, roots cradle life in stillness, and the trees, though they will stand bare, hold within them the quiet strength to awaken once again.
And as I walk back, I feel the forest settle into my heart. Every step, every scent, every sound—nestling into memory. Just as the leaves fall softly to the ground, so too these images fall into me, to be kept and cherished. For autumn passes, but its wonder always remains.
