SUBTLE NUDEInspiration

In the series Subtle Nude, Elise Eekhout brings female nudes to life through elegant, minimalist line drawings. Soft, flowing contours capture the essence of the body in a subtle and intimate manner.

These drawings are enriched with colored metallic foil texts that shimmer across the surface like a delicate second skin. At times, the lines of the figures seem to emerge from forested landscapes, with words and letters evoking leaves or mist. In other works, they partially disappear behind vertical strokes that suggest rain or the spray of a shower, creating a mystical, protective atmosphere. Some figures stand entirely on their own — pure and powerful in their simplicity.

Subtle Nude is a series that explores the connection between the female form and language, where image and text enhance one another in a gentle, poetic dialogue.

The book “Bezonken Rood” by Jeroen Brouwers served as a source of inspiration for some artworks in this series. The is based upon his descriptions of a long lost love: “In my imagination I saw her in the rectangular lit window above the clock shop window as if on a television screen.”

Other artworks in this series are inspired by chat-messages the artist received on facebook during the Corona lockdowns. There was a lot of loneliness during the Corona-Lockdowns.
